One reason many Jews rejected Jesus is because they believed the Messiah would overthrow their oppressors and set up an earthly kingdom. Even John the Baptist questioned whether Jesus was the true Messiah. Jesus’ commandments, including loving one’s enemies, were not popular. And it was only after his death and resurrection that his followers understood that Jesus came to establish a spiritual kingdom that would outlast every earthly kingdom.
Lord, help me to never reject you or your commandments.
