God commands us to rest one day in seven because we need time to rejuvenate our body, mind, and soul. We need freedom from work and our busy lives to grow our relationship with him and others. For Jews this day of rest is the Sabbath; for Christians it is Sunday. But strict, literal obedience to this law is not what God wants. Some of us must work on Sunday, so we rest on a different day. And if we need to get food to feed our hungry family on our day of rest, God doesn’t mind.
Lord, help me to know and follow the loving intent of your laws.
