The Pharisees believed in strict observance of the letter of God’s law. They were judgmental of others who fell short of the law in their eyes. They knew what Jesus preached and wanted to catch him breaking the law. Their belief blinded them from the miracle God performed in front of them and from Jesus’ rational argument that it is better to do good than follow the letter of the law.
Lord, help me to understand that you demand love, not perfection.
