A parable is a story about everyday life that reveals a spiritual truth. It sounds harsh to read that knowledge of the kingdom of heaven is granted to some, but not to others. If Jesus had spoken plainly, might not the hearts of everyone be converted? Jesus knows the minds and hearts of us all. Those open to Jesus, are granted the ability to understand the spiritual truths in his parables, through reflection and with the help of the Holy Spirit. Those who are close-minded and without faith are not able to understand.
Lord, help me to have faith and be open to your teachings about the kingdom.
