Through the prophets of the Old Testament, God gradually revealed his plan of salvation. However, the plan would remain hidden from the people until God himself would come to earth and explain it to us. The divine plan of salvation can be difficult to understand, so Jesus spoke in parables which use real world experiences to explain a spiritual truth. Understanding a parable requires one to be open to God, the help of the Holy Spirit, and to reflect on what the parable is revealing.
Lord, help me to reflect on your parables and understand the spiritual truths in them.
