Matthew 5:31-32, Teaching about Divorce

Marriage is the bedrock of society, providing physical, emotional, and financial support for the couple and their children. Marriage is both a civil contract and a religious covenant.  It is a permanent union of two people ‘until death do us part.’ Divorce is the legal civil dissolution of the marriage contract. There are times when divorce is warranted: for example, if a person endangers the body or soul of their spouse or children. In the book of Deuteronomy, there is a law that permits a man to divorce his wife. Jesus rejects the idea of divorce here and provides more detail in Matthew 19:1-12

Lord, help me to be fully committed to my spouse and our children.
