Matthew 5:43-48, Love of Enemies

What is love, and what is an enemy? Love is wanting what is good for someone. An enemy is someone who wants to harm or suppress us. The old testament commanded us to hate our enemies, but Jesus commands us to love and pray for them. On the surface, this commandment of Jesus seems unfair. However, loving our enemies doesn’t mean we have to like them, or like the things they do. We can and we should stand up against our enemies. But, we also must pray for them, and desire what is good for them.

Lord, help me to be just with my enemies, and pray for their conversion.
