Matthew 17:22-23, The Second Prediction of the Passion

This is the second of three times Jesus told his followers he would be killed and rise from the dead. Jesus would sacrifice himself to atone for the sins of all humanity, and then be resurrected to reunite us with God. This was his primary purpose in coming down from heaven. Yes, he taught many things and performed many miracles, but those were not his primary purpose. Eternal salvation was. Yet, when we celebrate Easter, our focus is often on new clothes, candy, and the Easter Bunny.

Lord, help me to celebrate Easter by focusing on what you have done for me.
