In Jesus’ time, every Jewish male over 19 years old, had to make an annual contribution for the maintenance and operation of the temple in Jerusalem. Even Jesus contributed to this mandatory tax. Do we contribute to our own church building fund? Do we make donations when we visit other churches or holy sites? Today, the Catholic Church encourages but does not mandate contributions. Those contributions support the operations of churches, humanitarian aid, and evangelization.
Lord, help me to contribute to the financial needs of your church.
