The mother of James and John asked Jesus that seats of authority in heaven be given to her sons. The other disciples were angry that these two brothers were seeking positions of power over them. Jesus replied by saying that his disciples should not exercise their positions of authority as being superior to others; they should humbly serve one another. Do we desire to be powerful or to control others? Do we desire praise and admiration when we serve others?
Lord, help me to have a desire to humbly serve others without the need of recognition.
