While most tax money was used to provide for the common good, some was used to do things contrary to Jewish law. This was one of the reasons the Pharisees felt it was wrong to pay taxes to Caesar. Jesus replied that it was lawful. He then shifted the focus and said we should also repay to God what belongs to God. Everything we have, our possessions, relationships, and talents, is a gift from God. How can we repay the creator of the Universe?
Lord, help me to repay you with my obedience and love.
