Jesus warns the crowds and his disciples that while they must follow the teachings of the church, they should not behave as some of the church leaders. For example, some are vain, having excessive pride in their outward appearance. Some are narcissistic, believing they are better than others and are entitled. Some are ostentatious, performing actions to draw attention to themselves. We can say all the right words and do all the right things, but if we do so for the wrong reasons, they mean nothing.
Lord, help me to say and do the right things with humility.
