Jesus tells another parable about his return. In previous readings Jesus said signs would precede his return such that the whole world would know he is coming. He also said the time between the signs and his arrival would not be long. In this parable, those who weren’t prepared and only bought oil once the bridegroom was spotted, were not allowed into the wedding banquet when he arrived. Likewise, those who turn to God only after seeing the signs of the second coming, will not be allowed into the heavenly banquet.
Lord, help me to always be prepared for your return.
