Matthew 26:14-16, The Betrayal by Judas

The Bible doesn’t record why Judas betrayed Jesus. The Jewish people were expecting the Messiah to be a great king and free them from Roman control. It must have been confusing to hear Jesus say he will be killed in two days. We know now that the Messiah came to free us from sin, but many people are still confused. They are expecting God to let them into heaven, even if they don’t follow his teachings. They believe that they can practice any religion any way they want, or no religion at all, as long as they are basically a good person.

Lord, help me to follow your teachings, not the expectations of society.
