Those condemned to be crucified, after having been whipped and beaten, had to walk from the governor’s palace in the city to Calvary outside the city walls. Jesus was so weak that the soldiers feared he would die on the way, so they made a bystander, Simon from Cyrene, carry the cross for Jesus. When we carry a burden for someone else, we are like Simon helping our Lord.
Lord, help me to carry the burdens for someone who can’t do it themselves.
